How To Play
Fairway Footy is a team competition that combines your everyday golfing activity with your favourite footy teams weekly performances.
Each Fairway Footy team is made up of 4 players who are all members of the same golf club. When registering their team they are required to nominate their favourite football team from their preferred code (NRL or AFL) and this then becomes their Fairway Footy partnership for the duration of the football season. Each Fairway Footy team is awarded a team points score on a weekly basis. This points score is calculated by adding together the points recorded from their golfing results to the points scored based on the performance of their footy team. (see scoring)
At the completion of the Home and Away fixtures, the top 8 teams of each code will qualify for the finals series. These finals are to be played out in the exact same format as adopted by each football code. (see finals format.)
The winning teams will both be decided on Grand Final day.
To enter a team simply proceed to the registration page and fill out the registration form for your team. Registration opens 1st January 2010. Registration closes one week prior to the first game of the football fixtures.
The one off fee payable upon registration is just $49 per person, or less than $1 per week. This fee gives you Fairway Footy membership for 12 months from the date of registration. You are then automatically entered into the competition .Your personalized Fairway Footy members card will be sent to you immediately after registration closes. You will receive confirmation of your registration by return email.
Fairway Footy Membership is a total membership package that affords members exclusive access to not just the Fairway Footy Golf competition but also, any draws, promotions and member discounts that become available.
Handicapping
As all golfers are handicapped in order to produce a level playing field for everyone, so to are the football teams. Each week online betting agencies release even money betting handicaps for each team. These handicaps are calculated by taking into account factors such as form, quality of opposition, team selection, venue, weather conditions, etc.
By using this method it makes no difference if your favourite team is a potential premiership winner or wooden spooner they still have the same chance from week to week. The coming weeks fixtures along with the handicaps will be displayed on the website every week.
Scoring
Your weekly Fairway Footy score is the aggregate of your FF golf points and your FF footy points. These are calculated with the following formulas:
FF golf points -
Each member of a team can compete in as many official individual club competitions as they like between Sunday and Saturday inclusive. All of their scores are converted to stableford points. At the end of each week the two best stableford scores (only one per team member) are added together to give their FF golf point score for that week.
FF footy points -
Your FF footy point score is dependant upon how well your favourite footy team fares against its opposition. At the conclusion of each individual football match the online betting handicap will be added or deducted from the final margin. Much like in golf this will leave us with a NETT result for each game. Points will be awarded as follows based on the NETT result:
Win - 4 points PLUS Bonus points*
Draw - 2 points
Loss - 0 points
*BONUS POINTS - One bonus point will be awarded for every golf point your team scores in excess of 72 points.
eg. 76 golf points = 4 bonus points. Bonus points are only awarded if your footy team wins.
Any FF footy points and bonus points scored will be added to your FF golf points to achieve your weeks Fairway Footy score. These scores and all leader boards will be updated weekly and be able to be viewed on the website.
Finals Format
At the completion of the home and away season the top 8 teams will be assigned the rankings 1-8 and commence head to head weekly finals matches under the identical format as adopted by the relevant football code. The scoring however will be now based on each teams FF golf score only. If teams are tied on points in a finals match then the highest ranked team will be awarded the winner. The final two teams in each code will play off in the Grand Final week, culminating on Grand Final day, to decide the Fairway Footy premiers.Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners up in both codes.
The winning team members will all receive packages to the "2011 PRESIDENTS CUP" to be played at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
While the runners up will take home fantastic consolation prizes.
